　　在那遥远的边疆，有两位战士，一个是经验丰富的老战士，另一个是刚来的年轻战士。开始的时候，年轻战士因为陌生，只是天天跟着老战士行走在沙漠中守卫，狂风凛冽，尘土飞扬，只有在晚上，才能在休息室里呆上一会儿。慢慢地年轻战士熟悉了。但又逐渐感到孤独寂寞，他已经二十多岁了，一年只能回家一次，有时一次也没有。这点点滴滴老战士都看在眼里，因为他也曾经感受过。一天，老战士兴高采烈的将一封信拿给年轻战士，说是离边疆不远的一个报社寄来的。年轻战士打开信看了看，里面写的都是一些鼓励人的话，而且是个女的，他立刻向老战士询问：“她漂亮吗？年轻吗？”老战士想了想说：“很漂亮，也很年轻。”以后，年轻战士便常常与她通信，再不感到孤独寂寞。直到有一天，老战士去逝了，年轻战士变成了一位白发苍苍的老战士了，他想：这么多年了，我们还未曾谋面呢。于是他来到了这个报，询问她的下落，结果是一位白发苍苍的老头，他顿时感到失望至极。回到休息室后，他坐下来静静地想了想：老战士其实也是为了我好呀！如果不是他，我想我不会快乐地度过这一段时间，啊，我得感谢老战士才对呀！
